Kindergarten

Junior and Senior Kindergarten levels are very special and critical stage of child’s learning phase.  Children at the age of 4 to 6 will be on a steep learning curve. Child moves from a sensory, self-centered, familial experience to a curriculum induced and teacher guided learning approach. The curriculum based activities forms the central theme. Teachers develop activities that will make students eager, curious, imaginative, driven, enthusiastic and inquisitive. The kindergarten teachers strive to create a warm, protective environment, rhythmically repetitive and secure, in which a child can slowly make the transition from Nursery to kindergarten level.

Our kindergarten program is a blended curriculum that transcends the traditional compartmentalised curriculum. The curricula should complement and synergize each other rather than restricting within the specific curricular and pedagogical approaches. With availability of early identification protocols and regulated requirements as envisaged in the NEP 2020 by the government, at the JKG level, textbooks are introduced (in the second term. Our blended curriculum integrates textbooks from IGCSE and NCERT/CBSE curricula. Publications of Oxford Press, Cambridege, NCERT, Dreamland, Pearson, Macmillan and S Chand & Co are the selected textbooks by which we ensure our students get the best. The curriculum should create the buzz and excitement where teachers are enthusiatic and the students form the core of every activity. The class teacher also brings unity and continuity to the merged curriculum, unifying the various disciplines.

During the main lesson, the teacher will achieve specific learning goals using creative, artistic, whole-body, multi-sensory and active learning approaches.  Each lesson or unit is introduced in an engaging way, followed by a discovery session where students share what they learned and teacher individually talks to each student to know what she/he wonders about to understand their wow factor. While the curriculum provides the structure and suggested lessons, teachers are free to tailor the individual learning units to suit their students and that day’s circumstances.

Keeping in line with the Waldorf philosophy, we are of firm faith and belief that education is an artistic process and skill. Whether the subject is English, Maths or drawing or yoga or language, the presentation must be lively – it should connect and speak to the child’s experience. To educate the whole child, the heart and will must be engaged, as well as the mind.  The Waldorf inspired blended curriculum lays a foundation for an independent thinking, creative problem solving, and a sense of confidence, which equips students for future challenges and quieter pursuits.
